Core 2652

Core 2652 - Step by Step Mining Instructions

1. Join a Shift
Before you can mine, you must join a shift. To do this, visit the apartment of the Foreman to your desired shift. Theapartments are located in the NorthEast quadrant on the groundfloor of the mine (7 North, 1 Northeast of Center).

Looking at the Foreman (“l foreman”) will explain the process of signing up for a shift.

2. Get Equipped
After you join your shift, get your equipment from yourshift's Quartermaster. The Quartermaster is in the sameroom as your Foreman.

Look at the Quartermaster (“l quartermaster”) to learn how to get equipped

Your mining equipment is "auto-loading" -- meaning it will be savedwith your character.

3. Go Down to the Lowest Mining Level
You get to the mining levels by using the Central Turbolift. From there, go down until you can not go any farther. Mining is always conducted on the lowest level of the mine.

As time goes on, the mining level will be depleted of ore, so you'll have to go down to the next level. At that time, the "down" exit will become functional in the turbolift.

4. Find a Mineable Shaft
When you're down in the mines, type the command: "shaft status" - This displays an "overhead" cross-section map of what the current mining level looks like.

If you see shaft that is accessible and has over 5% of its ore left in it, go there and start drilling for ore.

5. Excavate a Shaft if Needed
If there are no shafts listed in the "shaft status" command with mineable ore over 5%, then you need to open up a newshaft.

Use the "survey" command to examine the nearbywalls. Type "help survey" to see how this works.

An NPC called Blaster will sell blasting caps and detonators to you. These can be quite expensive. If you can't afford them, then you have to use your laser drill.

You can only blast or drill in the 4 main directions(north, south, east and west). Drilling is done by typing "drill west wall" - substitute west for whatever direction you want to drill. Drilling takes time... it takes even longer if your mining skill is low and you're doing it by yourself!

6. Drill for Ore
Use this command to start drilling for ore:
"drill ore"

Drilling for ore is a slow process, taking approximately 1 minute. When you're finished, you can look at your ore satchel ("l satchel") to seehow much ore you have collected. How much you collect is determined primarily by your mining skill and mining rank.

You can only mine while your shift is on duty.

7. Clock Out
When your satchel is full you may clock out with your Foreman. To clock out, go back to your Foreman and type:
"say clocking out"

Your Foreman will empty your ore satchel for you. He will check how much ore you have mined and issue you ore stocks. You get 10% of the ore you mined in ore stocks. This is the primary form of payment. Your ore stocks can be traded on the Core Stock Market.

Typing the command "stocks" will display a listing of what ore stocks you currently have.

Your Foreman also pays you a mining fee in credits. This is simply based on your mining skill, and on how many times you mined sincet he previous time you clocked out.

Drill for ore as many times as you can during your shift! This will increase the amount of your fee, and you'll get more ore stock.

8. In Case of Drill Fatigue

Often times while mining, your drill may start to make strange noises. This is an indication that it is wearing down. At this point, the player (if he/she is not a tech B) needs to take his/her drill to the Driller's Kiosk, located in the NE Shopping District. A machine in the shop will repair the drill (the Repair-o-Mat).
