The "planet" you see in our logo's background is actually "IO", one of Jupiter's moons. This picture was taken by a NASA satellite during a HUGE volcanic eruption, which can be seen behind our logo text.

The first version of Core, which opened on January 1, 1996, was based in the year 2696. The theme was "post-rebellion", the premise being the mining workers had revolted against The Company sometime before the game officially opened. The Rebel leaders became known as "Citizens" and ended up taking control over the Colony. The common worker came to wonder whether or not they were better off back when The Company ran things! :)

Anyway, in 1998 the MUD was re-vamped so that the game clock was rolled back 50 years, which was a few unspecified years prior to the rebellion. A number of changes were made to improve the game, and then Core 2696 became Core 2698.

Here's when 'Old Core' changed to 'New Core'
