Thank you for taking the time to read the player rules page.
This page doesn't cover any of the D&D rules. It is instead focused
on the players' code of conduct, which is necessary for an online multi-player
game. So without any further ado, here we go.
- Only one(1) character per player.
"Multi-playing" is not permitted, as it gives these players an unfair
advantage over players who own only one character. Please have only
one saved character at any given time. If you wish to start a new
character, please use the "suicide" command on your old character.
- Character names should be "in theme".
This game is based in a magical/fantasy setting, so your character
should be named within this theme. AOL chatroom names like "HaK0R-56",
or futuristic names like "Cyber-anything" should not be used.
Characters who choose profane names like "f*ckyou" will be deleted
immediately. Finally, please don't pick names of leading characters from
well-known fantasy stories or console games, like "Merlin", "Bilbo",
"Lord Foul", "Cloud Strife", etc...
- Come here to have fun.
We're all here to relax and have a good time. Some people, unfortunately,
get a kick out of going from MUD to MUD seeing how quickly they can get
site-banned and/or piss everyone off. If this is you, please go
elsewhere: all login attempts are logged, and you'll just end up being
publicly ridiculed anyway.
- Reporting bugs or loopholes is rewarded.
Players will be rewarded for reporting game bugs or unintentional coding
loopholes whenever feasible, either with game money ("Guilders") or experience points.
Players who knowingly abuse bugs or exploit loopholes
will lose whatever they gained from this abuse, in addition to a penalty.
- MUD client "triggers" (also called "events") rule.
Users of the Portal client may activate the "auto-jumpstart trigger".
Any MUD client may employ client-side alarms only.
Your MUD client should not be programmed in any way to automatically
send commands to the MUD. Coastal Legends is a role-playing game, not
a macro-writing contest.
- MUD client "macro" and "speedwalk" rule.
MUD client features may not be used that send multiple commands to the
MUD in a single second via one command or click.
If you absolutely must write a "speedwalk"
macro, please insert a one-second delay in between each movement. Failure
to do so may cause lag for everyone else.
- The "suicide" rule.
If you suicide your character and plan on starting a new one, don't give
your old money and equipment to someone else for "safekeeping" until they
can give it to your new character. Your new character may not benefit from
your old character.
- Don't ask for, or give out, solutions to Quests.
Quests are very time-consuming to write, and they're supposed to challenge
you. Please don't pester people to give away the solution... all it means
is we'll have to re-write the Quest, which takes away our programming time
from other projects.
- Players are protected from the whims of the coding/DM staff.
A set of rules exists for the coding staff that prohibits "messing with"
player characters. This means players can't be teleported into a death
trap on the whim of a coder/DM. Complaints of abuse of this particular rule
should be privately sent to Grey via the "mail grey" command. The obvious
exception to this rule is when a member of Law or Admin is performing
his or her duties.
The above rules are intended to preserve the quality of the game for
everyone. That's really the "spirit of the rules", so please keep that in
mind when considering exploiting a legalistic loophole. :)
If you have questions about the player rules, please ask. We would prefer to
take the time to explain the rules, rather than spend even more time dealing
with the alternative! If you see someone with "Law" listed at the end of
their title, that's the first person to ask.
This page may be viewed from any browser, not just one from Redmond.
