"Core" is a planet at the fringe of the populated galaxy, 650 years
into the future. "The Company" has established a mining colony here,
and your role as player is a mining colony worker.
- Portal©-enhanced MUD. Experience Core with sound,
graphics, status meters, and more.

- ANSI color.
- Sound (via the MUD Sound Protocol and the Portal MIP protocol)
- Player-run merchant shops. Players can be shopkeepers and earn
commission, set prices, add goods to shop inventories, etc. This is
a player-run economy at work!
- Extensive mining system. Instead of killing monsters that are
mysteriously carrying gold coins, Core has a custom-written economy that makes a
little more sense. Check out the
mining instructions
to see how you earn your primary income!
- Unique futuristic
races.
Don't you hate playing a "future" MUD
that just "happens" to have races from "Star Trek"? We put a little
more thought into it on Core!
- Multi-classed characters. You simultaneously belong to the
Miner, Mercenary, and Technician classes. Class advancement is
skill-based, so you can pick your class of specialization.
- Mortal wizards. Our game programmers are called "Coders", not
"Wizards". The coders are mortals just like you. There's an
extensive set of
rules
for the coders... these rules are intended for
players' protection. (Have you ever been on a MUD where a "wizard"
teleported you instantly into a dungeon, or forced you to do/say things?)
- Auto-loading equipment (stuff that saves with your character).
Not everything autoloads (like drinks and batteries), but most of your
weapons and armour do.
- Assigned housing. You get a private apartment at level 3, rent free.
- Skill-based combat. Your skill potential is limited by your level.
- Care to gamble? There's Blackjack and Slot Machines in the pubs.
You'll also find a Stock Market!
- World is mappable on graph paper. Rooms and areas don't "overlap",
as every room has been assigned a unique x/y/z mapping coordinate.
The "compass" command displays an overhead 2-D view of the area you're
in, so you won't get lost in this custom-written world.
- No magic. No elves. Great beer!
